Telstra versus Belong: Free stuff and extras

Belong

Belong does not offer any extra features. However, it has a great plan value and good features.

Telstra

Telstra is known for its extras. You get extras on prepaid extra and postpaid Telstra plans. List of extras are live, data-free streaming of every AFL, NRL, and Australian netball game, and data-free music streaming (a free six-month subscription) from Apple Music. You also get free access to Telstra Air. Telstra Air is a network of Wi-Fi hot spots throughout the country. Along with Telstra Air, you also gain access to 19 million Wi-Fi hot spots overseas through Fon Wi-Fi.

Postpaid users can also enjoy two free new release rentals from BigPond Movies in the first month after registering. If you’re signing up for a two-year mobile plan, or a 12-month SIM-only deal, you can also claim a bonus two-year Foxtel Now subscription. The offer applies to new customers on Telstra’s L, XL, XXL and Premium postpaid plans, and includes one Foxtel Now Starter Pack.

Belong versus Telstra: Data roll over and gifting

Belong

A major feature of Belong is data roll over. Sometimes you do not use all the data in a month. You can roll that unused data over to next month. Users can bank unlimited data for as long as they wish but will lose all banked data if a payment is overdue for an ‘extended period’.

You can also donate or transfer data to Belong customers through Data Gifting. Data Gifting allows you to gift data to active Belong users. It should be in increments of 1 GB. Therefore, you must have at least 1 GB high-speed data before gifting.

Telstra

Prepaid Extra plan users can use the data roll over facility. This feature is not applicable for postpaid users. You can roll over up to 50 GB of unused data, provided you recharge your plan before its expiry date. If there are any unused data left, then it will be forwarded over to the next month. You must be an active Telstra user to use this feature. A minimum of $30 is required to qualify for this criterion. Your stored away data doesn’t expire unless you cancel your service, or switch to another postpaid or prepaid option.

Belong versus Telstra: Overages

Belong

Overages are not charged for Belong users. If you have completed your monthly high-speed data then, you will not be charged any extra cost. Rather your service will be throttled down for the rest of your billing cycle. You can buy extra data at any point of time.

Telstra

If you exceed your monthly data allowance, then Telstra will automatically add extra data to your plan. The additional data will be charged at $10 per GB. So, you might get unexpected bills at the end of the month.

Telstra versus Belong: Contracts

Belong

Belong does not have contract plans. They are SIM-only, month to month mobile phone plans.

Telstra

Telstra offers BYO plans, contract-free plans, and contract plans in terms of 12 or 24 months. If you sign up for a plan with a longer validity, then you get more data and extras. Lesser the plan validity, lesser the data offered.
